Nike launches sensor-free workout mapping

Nike today launched a new version of its Nike+ app which uses the Iphone’s GPS radio and accelerometer to track your workout.

Replacing the original application, which required the use of a small in-shoe sensor, the app creates a map of your workout which can be uploaded to the Nike+ website, and records details including pace, distance, calories burned etc which can be relayed to the user in voice prompts during the run – for example “Congratulations, you just burned off those pancakes you had for breakfast”. “Slowing down? I hope you aren’t thinking of stopping, you really could do with the exercise” and “Dead is not a condition, it is a state of mind – now get up off the sidewalk”.
